What is a Tiki Mug?
Whilst falling in love with Tiki Mugs and all things Tiki and then starting our business, we found that there was a single question that we heard many times from friends and family after hearing about what we were doing.
And that question is: “What is a Tiki Mug?”
Once we explained and showed them, they were like "oh yeah", and connected with mugs and glasses they had seen before.
After hearing this question more than a few times we thought it was a good idea to explain what Tiki mugs and glasses were and why we felt so passionately about them. We thought Tiki World was self explanatory, but it may not be, so please let us show you and then you'll see.
Tiki mugs are one of the most iconic pieces of tiki decor, and have been popular since their inception in the 1940s. These large ceramic cups or glasses are used to serve drinks and are frequently garnished with fruit or decorative drink umbrellas and swizzle sticks. They typically depict Polynesian, mock-Polynesian, tropical, nautical, or retro themes, and as the term is used generically do not always emulate a tiki.
Whilst we were dating we would go to different styles of restaurants and try different food, but it would be at a local Steak House on a Valentine's Day date that we came across our first Tiki Mug, a lady next to us had a cocktail in one and I asked the server about it and just had to have one also. Shortly after we stumbled across a couple of Tiki Mugs at a 'Vintage Market' and purchased them immediately.
Drinking an ice cold cocktail out of this Tiki mug was so much better and stayed colder longer and the design of it made the drink much more memorable.
So we decided that everyone should benefit from having the same experience. We spent a while trying to find somewhere to purchase more Tiki Mugs from in Australia and we struggled to find a reputable source before coming upon the idea of using our new found passion and online commerce experience to import and supply Tiki Mugs and Glasses straight to your home. We also tried cocktails from our glass Tiki’s and it was different from a normal tumbler or other bar glass that you may have at home.
The kids also enjoy drinking mocktails or hot chocolate from these mugs. We have also experimented with other hot and cold beverages so we can stand by what we are selling and offer suggestions on how to use your Tiki Mugs and Tiki Glasses in your everyday life.
Geoff lived overseas in Papua New Guinea as a youngster when he was first born and again when he was 8 and has also travelled to other South Pacific islands including Fiji, Noumea and Vanuatu. His family's love for the Islands, the people and the culture has transferred through his childhood and adulthood and drinking from a Tiki Mug or Glass brings back memories of his time overseas in tropical paradise.
So as you can see our deeply ingrained love as well as a new found love has brought us to where we are today. Tiki World is an extension of ourselves and we hope you fall in love with Tiki as much as we have.
